Parents' Challenges in Finding Baby Merchandise Increasingly Difficult

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) October 31, 2007 -- Today, many American parents are overwhelmed with baby merchandise buying decisions. With thousands of manufacturers and a constantly growing list of baby merchandise that can be purchased for babies and toddlers, many American parents feel overwhelmed as they prepare for the arrival of their children.

"Thirty years ago, parents were not faced with the staggering number of merchandise choices -- in preparing for the arrival of children. Only a handful of manufacturers existed, and parents only had to select a few items: a stroller, a car seat, a baby bed, and maybe a few other items," said Phil Ayres, founder of MommyAdvisor.com, a website that provides ratings of baby products.

"Today's parents are faced with a staggering number of choices. And, new parents have no idea if these items are even necessary. Therefore, American parents are becoming overwhelmed with decisions: Do I need certain items? And, even if I do, how do I find the right one out of the hundreds of manufacturers and models available? The choices are overwhelming," Ayres said.

The Internet is being used by some as a source of information to simplify these decisions for parents. Websites like MommyAdvisor.com, a baby merchandise ratings site, were started to assist parents with buying decisions.

Ayres says that he "started MommyAdvisor.com with the intent of simplifying the buying process for parents. In planning this site, we discovered that there are very few resources to help parents by providing them with information on baby merchandise from the parents who use these products," Ayres said.

"Most of the online resources to assist parents with buying decisions are from 'experts' who have little practical experience in working with these products. I believe that the best resources to inform parents about the quality and safety of baby merchandise come from the parents, themselves."

Ayres believes that the Internet will become a "more important aid" to parents in making baby purchasing decisions, in the future. "Clearly, there is a problem. The changes that new parents must undergo are absolutely overwhelming. And, the choices that parents must make in purchasing baby merchandise only add to a new parent's challenges. In many other areas, the Internet has been used to resolve societal challenges. And, in time, I believe that more entrepreneurs and business people will enter this space to simplify the challenges associated with having children that have been created by the baby merchandise industry."
